Industrial production processes are moving towards a new dimension, characterized by initiatives like” digital production “or” Industry 4.0'. Many initiatives in Europe undertake central tasks in this direction. In this context, supply chain optimization and integration into the overall workflow are key issues for efficient and flexible production that meets the needs of individual customers. 4. aside from the Industrial Revolution, future concepts such as component-based and collaborative automation require much more distributed functionality than those used today.

OPTIMUM aims to support innovative concepts for intelligent manufacturing and material handling engineering, control and inspection. Closely related to working groups around Industry 4.0, it works in line with European, national and international initiatives for digital production. The main objectives of optimum are: improvement of dispersed control components, adaptation of IoT technologies to real industrial needs, context and location detection of controls and applications, as well as development of controls and applications. At the same time, we aim to realize application design and common model-based 3-D engineering and supervision in the industry.
